Surrounded by paddocks and open views work within the grounds of this substantial barn conversion covered a number of different areas. Tackled in three phases design commenced with a floral perennial garden in 2013, followed by small entrance borders to the
front, concluding with a large wildlife pond and adjacent borders at the head of the long drive completed in Summer 2018.
The perennial garden was a prominent 260 sqm area outside the sitting room windows. With less than a month before a major summer party, DIG was challenged with a tight programme. The client had designed a cruciform herringbone brick path incorporating a central millstone. Planting within the four resultant beds was characterised by large drifts of bold planting designed by DIG.
Within the shaded bed below existing trees DIG used lush woodland varieties notable for their contrsting foliage; japanese tassel ferns, pulmonaria, and luscious leaves of Hydrangea annabelle.
Elsewhere planting was an amalgam of new perennial style and traditional cottage garden favourites including large drifts of Echinacea’s, Veronicastrum, and Sedum matrona, providing fabulous summer colour. Groups of clipped box balls and drifts of spring bulbs extended the season of interest. Climbing roses on four feature pergolas providing instant height.
